An appreciated collaboration
The availability of public toilets is crucial for a large town that arranges large public activities. Nine extremely well-visited toilet buildings from Danfo are now deployed in central Gothenburg. Since Danfo established the first facility in Brunnsparken in 2013, development has progressed rapidly. The collaboration with Gothenburg municipality has so far resulted in nine centrally located toilet buildings.

“It was necessary to increase the availability of public toilets, and so we looked at how they had managed this in Malmö, and other places. We drew up a detailed specification before the procurement process, with stringent requirements on operation and maintenance, and we specified that the design of the toilet must fit into the urban environment,” says project manager Bengt Nilsson of the Department of Parks and Nature.

Copes with heavy use
The project was awarded to Danfo, who worked with White Design to design a toilet building suitable for Gothenburg, based on the Tetragon 121. CEO at Danfo Mikael Magnusson describes how it is ideal for central locations with many visitors.
“Our toilet buildings are designed to cope with a high number of visitors and heavy use. Further, the design fits well into the surroundings while the public can see clearly that it is a toilet,” he explains.

The fact that Danfo also offers a comprehensive undertaking with respect to care and maintenance is a major contribution to the easy collaboration and positive development.
“We look after all care and maintenance, and make sure that the toilets are always undamaged and clean, no matter what happens. This makes things very much easier for our customers, since modern toilet facilities contain a lot technology that requires special knowledge to handle,” Mikael Magnusson points out.

A million visitors
The first toilet was installed in Brunnsparken, and has now been joined by eight further freestanding toilet buildings at strategic locations in central Gothenburg. These include Drottningtorget, Avenyn and Slottsskogen.
“We are very satisfied. These are places where a lot of people pass. Our statistics that show that the Danfo toilets have had around a million visitors so far, and the reactions we have received suggest that they are highly appreciated,” says Bengt Nilsson.
He also sees several advantages in the comprehensive solution for operation and maintenance that Danfo offers. “They keep the toilets clean and rapidly change any broken parts, and this contributes a great deal to ensuring that the quality we required is maintained. We find this an effective form of collaboration.”
Mikael Magnusson agrees whole-heartedly.
“Our long experience in the industry means that we know the criteria that must be fulfilled in order to satisfy the needs of the customers, and we are always looking for ways in which we can improve,” he concludes.
